An homage to female craftsmanship
The Bitter North Workshop is the creative playground and workshop classroom of textile enthusiast and multi-creator Jules Niemi. Born and raised in northern Sweden, Jules moved to Minneapolis in 2015 and has since worked in both merchandising as well as interior design showrooms, until finally deciding that a maker needs to… well, make.
Working in rug tufting, visible mending, embroidery, weaving and printing, Jules specializes in creating modern home decor items, often inspired by classic folk art and textile tradition.
“I’m on a never-ending quest of discovering and deconstructing techniques passed down from generations of women from around the world. I take pride in highlighting and continuing the incredibly complex work women have been doing for thousands of years.”
With her never-ending love affair with all things fiber, she hopes to inspire and teach others about the diversity of textile craft!
